Universal is a grid painting painted by Monaghan in 2015. One of the larger black and whites, Universal is really the Universe looking back at you. A black and white universe that looks at the observer. Look at the piece and you will see the face made of ever expanding planets. As with the rest of the pieces in the Black and White series the painting is an opportunity to deconstruct the universe. Created with egg shells which gives the painting its texture.
