Todd Monaghan, 2002, 76"/106"/1.5", Oil, acrylic, enamel, pastel, egg shells and canvas on canvas.
Gold Ian was created by Monaghan in 2002 at the end of his deep exploration of Jackson Pollock and his drip painting work. When you look into the center of the piece you can see the profile of Max from the book Where The Wild Things Are. Within the piece you will also see various spirits (i.e. faces and characters interacting with one another and the viewer.) The texture in the work is created with egg shell and layered canvas.
