Todd Monaghan, 2021, 54"/74"/1.5", gesso, acrylic and egg shells on canvas.
Reho Totems, one of the few pieces in the Rehoboth Beach Residency created from a raw canvas (Monaghan's usual practice), was created during the heat of the summer. This piece is a return to Monaghan's early black and white series and the totems that where the initial starting point of the series. These totems are like the original totem works in the black and white series but they are more refined, defined and edgier then the early works. The totems in this piece have taken on a more character driven, humanistic look. They move and flow together in a more dynamic way.
