9 Geese and a Hunter (the second of 2 Geese paintings painted in this new series) was inspired by a photograph of Monaghan's brother walking through the marsh with the sunrising over the Rocky Mountains behind him. This piece is a continuation of the black and white works that Monaghan has been creating over the last several years. The work also incorporates egg shells, a recurring theme in Monaghan's work. The work is representational and yet harkens back to Monaghan's more spiritual surrealistic work with its use of orbs and space.
